There is a very fine line between aran and worsted weight yarns. From a technical standpoint, an aran weight yarn is a little thicker at 8 wraps per inch. Worsted weight yarns will have 9 wraps per inch.
However, many of the yarns most of us think of as being a “worsted weight” yarn are actually aran weight! It doesn’t help when both are lumped into the general “Medium 4” weight you’ll see on standard yarn labels.
Don’t worry if this is confusing. In many cases you’ll be able to use these yarns interchangeably without issue.
