I just bought some acrylic Red Heart Fashion Soft. As you may know, I thought I would forever avoid acrylic yarns and become one of those holier-than-thou, natural-fibers-only yarn snobs. I grew up using cheap acrylics and I hated their squeaky, splitty, plied guts. You can learn about the yarn the changed my mind in my Lion Brand Jeans purchase post. With my eyes opened, I decided to try other acrylics. I’m particularly interested in ones that are lighter weights because they are not as easy to find in stores.
Red Heart Fashion Soft yarn – the only 100% acrylic yarn in my recent order from Herrschners. I bought a few wool yarns and some wool blends, but those are for another post. Normally I would have been afraid to place an order online, not having been able to feel it. But sport weight acrylics aren’t something I see all the time in stores and it’s rated 4.3 out of 5 on Ravelry.

The specifications from YarnSub.com confirm this as a sport weight yarn, comprised of 100% acrylic in a standard ply. The skeins are an unusually sized 141g and contain 385 yards of potential.

If you’re looking to buy this yarn on a steal, I cannot recommend Herrschners highly enough. They regularly run some of the cheapest yarn deals I’ve seen, often selling clearance and discontinued yarns for as low as $1/skein. Follow Herrschners on Facebook or sign up for their newsletter to get notifications on upcoming sales. I’ve regularly seen coupon codes that offer an order level discount and discounted/free shipping.
But if you’re looking for a larger color selection, you’ll have to order from Yarnspirations. They have some amazing colors that Herrschner’s doesn’t have! I’m looking forward to trying Red Heart’s Fashion Soft! I purchased three skeins in the basic, but always sexy, Black.
